G League Power Rankings: Regular Season Week 11

Joe DiProsperos /March 15, 2023

It’s Wednesday, so that of course means it’s time for another fresh edition of G League Power Rankings!

Once again, the upper echelon of the list is largely unchanged. Despite losing for the first time in nearly two months, Long Island is still very much the top dog. Stockton continues to give them a run for their money while Memphis, Delaware and South Bay round out the top five.

Elsewhere on the list, there is other movement to take note of. Most notably, Windy City and College Park have cracked the list as they battle for playoff positioning in an uber-crowded Eastern Conference.

Take a look at where things currently stand at the moment.

1. Long Island Nets

Record: 22-5 (1-2 this week)Previous ranking: 1

Long Island’s impressive 16-game winning streak came to an end this past week, but they still very much control the East’s top seed. After missing their past couple games, leading scorer David Duke Jr. returned to the lineup on Tuesday and immediately got back to work, posting a game-high 29 points along with 8 rebounds, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Though that game ended in a loss, these Nets will certainly need his offensive prowess moving forward as they aim to lock up home-court advantage and secure a first-round bye.

Record: 22-6 (3-0 this week)Previous ranking: 2

One of just three teams in the G with 20 or more wins on the regular season, Stockton still reigns supreme in the West following victories over South Bay, Salt Lake City and Westchester. Just like he has for a majority of the season, Neemias Queta continues to lead the way, logging 23 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks against the Lakers before going off for 31 points and 12 rebounds on 13/16 shooting versus the Stars. Having logged double-doubles in four of his last six games, his outstanding production just continues.

3. Memphis Hustle

Record: 19-6 (1-0 this week)Previous ranking: 3

Matt Hurt once again stepped up in a big way for the Hustle this past week. After going off for a season-high 30 points and 5 blocks in a win against Austin, he then proceeded to nearly match that total by dropping 28 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 blocks in a dominant victory over Wisconsin. League assist leader Jacob Gilyard also put together another strong performance as a playmaker, contributing 20 points and 10 assists on 7/10 shooting.

Record: 20-8 (3-1 this week)Previous ranking: 5

Don’t look now, but Delaware is suddenly well within striking distance of the East’s top seed after winning seven of their last eight games. Mac McClung continues to have an absolutely superb first season in Delaware, most recently posting at least 20 points and 2 made threes six times in his last seven outings. He is still the undisputed leader of an offense ranked fifth in offensive rating and is scoring at the highest rate in the entire G (124.5 PTS). This team has continued to hit its stride.

View post on Twitter 5. South Bay Lakers

Record: 18-9 (1-1 this week)Previous ranking: 4

Outscoring their opponents in the paint and on fastbreaks has been this South Bay team’s bread and butter this season. They’re averaging a league-best 64.2 points per game in the paint and are also tied for the league lead in fast break points per game (20.8). Their prowess in those departments was on full-display on March 8 against Sioux Falls as they outscored the Skyforce 27-13 in fast break points and 68-60 in the paint in a thrilling 127-125 victory. It's certainly a trend to keep an eye on with this team moving forward.

View post on Twitter 6. Mexico City Capitanes

Record: 16-10 (0-1 this week)Previous ranking: 6

Gary Clark’s very efficient scoring remains vital for this Capitanes squad. He most recently logged 30 points as well as 8 rebounds and 5 assists against Windy City on March 12, his seventh 25+ point game of the regular season. He’s currently one of just four eligible players averaging at least 19 points, 8 rebounds and a steal per game in the regular season. With the stretch run fast approaching, Clark figures to continue being the focal point of everything Mexico City does.

View post on Twitter 7. Maine Celtics

Record: 16-11 (1-1 this week)Previous ranking: 7

Maine capped off their week in impressive fashion by taking down the hottest team in the G in Long Island on March 12, ending their 16-game winning streak. They were aided in large part by a trio of dominant performances from Mfiondu Kabengele (30 PTS, 10 REB, 3 BLK), Kamar Baldwin (25 PTS, 16 AST, 5 REB) and Tony Snell (24 PTS, 8 REB, 6 3PM). Kabengele, in particular, was a force in that two-game set against the Nets, also going off for 28 points and a season-high 21 rebounds in the opening matchup a few days prior.

8. Salt Lake City Stars

Record: 17-11 (1-1 this week)Previous ranking: 8

Frank Jackson continues to score the basketball in bunches for this Salt Lake City squad. He most recently earned G League Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after he averaged over 33 points per game while shooting 56.7% from the field and over 44% from three-point range last week. That stretch of games included his career-high 45 points against Texas and his 32-point, 4-rebound, 4-assist effort on the road in Oklahoma City. He is and will remain the engine behind the Stars' high-powered offense.

9. Windy City Bulls

Record: 15-12 (2-0 this week)Previous ranking: N/R

Seven wins in their last eight games, including three-straight, has Windy City in a prime position to secure a playoff spot in the final weeks of the regular season. While the G’s leading scorer Carlik Jones has logged 25 or more points in seven of his last nine outings, Ethan Thompson has also given the Bulls a nice scoring boost. Posting 20 or more points in four of his last five games, he’s second on the team in scoring (20.7 PTS) during this current three-game winning streak.

View post on Twitter 10. College Park Skyhawks

Record: 14-13 (1-1 this week)Previous ranking: N/R

College Park is one of numerous Eastern Conference teams looking to seize a playoff spot in these final weeks of the regular season. Winning four of their last five games has certainly helped that cause, and they also now rank in the top ten in both offensive and defensive rating. Brandon Williams and Chris Silva have given their team major boosts on both ends of the court over this recent five-game stretch, with Williams contributing over 20 points, 4 assists and 1.5 steals per game while Silva has added over 15 points, 11 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and a steal per contest.
